About Us

Kpuma’um” means “helping you” in the Gola dialect.

Kpuma Counseling and Consulting was founded on the basis of recognizing the lived experiences marginalized groups endure and the substantial impacts it plays on our (one’s) mental health. Some may discover themselves feeling overwhelmed, stressed, depressed, and anxious which in turn can result in challenges that impact our abilities to work, interact with family, friends, or romantic partners.

At Kpuma Counseling and Consulting, we want you to know that you do not have to always “hold it together”, there are trained professionals to help guide you through these challenges. We will meet you wherever you are. Our goal is to “Kpuma’um” (help you).

Our approach to counseling is humanistic because it is a holistic approach that centers around you. We use a client-centered approach because you are the expert on your life. And there is no one out there like you. Your story makes you unique.

Through using an integrative approach to counseling we will collaborate to make the harder things easier to deal with. We will provide tools to help you understand yourself at a deeper level. We highly promote (and encourage) self-efficacy–we want you to advocate for what you want.

Ultimately, at Kpuma Counseling and Consulting, we want clients to feel seen and heard. We want you to know that you matter. We will work towards resolving the problems that have been hindering you from moving forward.

We invite you to take this journey of healing with us.

Founder’s Story

As a therapist with several marginalized identities I strive to create brave spaces for all my clients to be their most true and authentic selves.

With past experiences, I understand what it means to be the “different person” in the room. As an immigrant, black male, first-gen student, I had to navigate through different settings to be where I am today. It was never an easy journey as you can imagine but remaining true to my character allowed me to work towards to what I wanted.

Life is never easy, but with the help of the right people in my life, I’ve been able to beat the odds and continue to strive for more. My ultimate goal is to motivate you to be your best self. If I can do it, others can do it, and so can YOU.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in many settings in the behavioral health field including inpatient, community-based, residential, and outpatient. I also worked in human resources, workforce development, and community development. These experiences allowed me to understand some of your lived experiences as I’ve worked with a diverse range of people from all walks of life to include those living with different disorders/problems.

I obtained my master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Rhode Island College. Additionally, I have a master’s in public health in urban studies from Northeastern University, where I began to integrate my mental health background to community based initiatives. Additionally, I completed my bachelor’s in psychology from Roger Williams University with concentrations in anthropology/sociology and Cultural Studies.

Outside of work, I take great pride in volunteering in the community and mentoring the next generation of great leaders. I am also an avid traveler, art lover, and love spending time with family and friends.
